The detention of Edwin Antonio Rubio López, also known as 'El Max' or 'El Oso', represents a heavy blow to the Sinaloa Cartel, as this individual is a key operator in the criminal structure and a priority target for Mexican authorities. According to close sources, 'El Max' was involved in the control of strategic territories for drug trafficking and other crimes such as kidnappings and extortions.

In 2021, Rubio López attempted to evade capture by filing a legal protection that was unsuccessful. He was ultimately arrested on October 21, 2024, during an operation carried out jointly by the Mexican Army and the National Guard in Sinaloa. The capture took place in the ejido Plan de Oriente at 20:25 hours.

Edwin Antonio Rubio López was a prominent operator of the Sinaloa Cartel, specifically linked to the Los Uriarte cell operating in eastern Tijuana. Considered one of the most violent hitmen of the organization, he is attributed with numerous brutal acts, such as dismembering his victims to send intimidating messages to his rivals, including the execution of entire families, women and children included.

According to unofficial sources, at least 18 alleged criminals were shot dead during the operation that culminated in the detention of 'El Max'. Authorities also cite him for his active participation in the dispute between factions within the Sinaloa Cartel, especially between the groups led by Ismael 'Mayito Flaco' Zambada and the Chapitos, sons of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán.
